The Financial Times nil, phasises the desirability of conciliatory treatment of Western Australia by the Comiaon. wealth. 'fhe Financial News says: “(*n the face of it the vote might he disturbing to investors in Western Australian stocks, who quite properly regard the resources of fhe Commonwealth as their real security, hut it is inconceivable that the Commonwealth as a whole will approve either of secession or legislation bv the Imperial Parliament.” The Daily Telegraph .says “The referendum must not bi taken too seriouslv. The result is no surprise to those who know the dissatisfaction of the farm ers with the high tariffs im posed by interests in the Eastern States, and as showing how unreliable a referendum can bi the voters threw out tile ven Government which engineerei the secession agitation.”
