NEW CABINET MINISTER
PREMIER GREATLY PLEASED NOMINATED BY MR- COATES (I*lol Pres* Association* Wellington, April 10 Mr- Bitchener was sworn in this morning by tin* Governor-General. Mr. Forties, in a statement, said he had the greatest pleasure in accepting the nomination by Mr- Coates, who had the right to nominate Mr. \V. Downie Stewart's suceessor. * I have the very highest opinion of Mr. Biteheiier's worth and qualifications for holding t nbinet rank,* he said- **llis long and honourable service in local body government and liis business experience gained by association with commercial institutions. wll stand him in good stead in the administration of the i>ortfoUo which has lieen entrusted to him. lie has a thorough knowledge of the conditions experienced by back blocks settlers and will, naturally. In* in a position to give practical and sympathetic consideration to the needs and wants of settlers whose progress is closely associated with the work of the Public Works 1 Hqmrtnieiit- I feel confident, that Mr- Bitchener will he a valuable addition to tin* Cabinet, and that his advice and counsel will lie of considerable assistance to us in the many difficult problems this country is at present facing”
