Operations of Act HO.V. K. A. HANSOM IN CHARGE APPOINTMENT OF HOARD (Per Press Association) Wellington, April 10 Finality has now bsen reached by Cabinet over 'the administ.ratio/n. of the Small Farms (Relief of Unemployment) Act, which was passed bv Parliament last session. I’lie Hon. K. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands, will he charged with the administration of the Act. in accordance with a decision reached by the Ministry at the week-end. There liaj been some difference of opinion in Cabinet, as to whether the development of tlie new policy which the leigslation introduced should he in the hands of its author the Rt. Hon. J G. Coates, Minister of Finance and Customs, or whether the subject- was one for the* Minister of Land< t-o handle. With the administration issue settled, steps are now being completed to constitute then pccial board of five which will assist in the administration. and endeavour to premote the settlement of approved persons on suitable areas of land in accordance with’ the far-reaeliing provisions of the legislation.

BOARD APPOINTED 12,000 APPLICANTS FOR LAND The Prime Minister announced today the completion.of formalities giving effect to the- Small Farms Act. A committee of Ministers, namely tlio Ministers of Land, Agriculture and Employment,, has been appointed a,ud tlio Minister of .[.anils will be in charge of the administration cf the Act. The following boaid lias been appointed to control the small I arm plan:— Mr Robertson, under-secretary ot Lands who will be- chairman. Dr it. M. Campbell, private secretary to Mr Coates. Mr A. H. Cockayne, assist a ut-Director-General of Agriculture. Mr J. S. Jesseib deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board. Mr G. K. Miller, deputy-Superin-tende’.it of . the, State Advances. l t is understood that .already upl>roxiinntelv, 12'.000 applications to take up land under tbe Act have been received hy the Government.
