FORTY MILLION POPPPIES
A DISASTROUS FIRE As a result of the lire at the British Legion poppy warehouse last May, when 21,000,000 poppies were destroyed, there was a shortage of the more expensive types of the emblem on Poppy Day or Remembrance Day last year, November 11, in England. An augmented staff of 3(10 disabled ex-service men had been working unceasingly since May to make good the depletion of the stock oi tho ordinary type, of which there was an abundance to meet the demand in all parts of the- world. An appeal was made by the British Legion Poppy Day headquarters to those who usually buy the more expensive poppies to take this year whatever poppies were available, while paying for them with their customary generosity.
