NO MOVE TO RESIGN AN OFFICIAL DENIAL SALARIES HAVE TO BE CUT (Per Press Association) Wellington, Jan. 12. Tlio opinion was expressed to-day hv the Minister of Defence, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, that, although the officers and staff of tlie Defence Department had suffered necessary reductions in pay and emoluments ii line with those of other branches of the Public Service, no credence could be given to the statement made ii some quarters that there was a eoncited move on the part of some members of tlie Defence Department to resign their tiff ices. Tlie Minister stated lie understood Unit one of the main reasous which actuated Major W. Ivory, a prominent officer of the Department, to resign his commission was that he intended going to England, anticipating to receive a better appointment there. Mr. Cobbe added: ’'These are very bad times for everybody in every country, and a man in a jiosition of fair security to-day is. although in many instances his emoluments might nut in iiis opinion lit* commensurate with his service, certainly very fortunate.”
