EXCITING FISHING
CATCHING A GOOLB MAKO PRAISE OF THE BIG FELLOWS “I’m uo'J bv any manner of means a fisherman,” said Air E. A. Batt president of the Wellington Automobile Club, who has just returned from Russell, “but if 1 had the leisure and the means I would do precisely as Zane Grey does.” Air Batt has been v isiting the Bay of Islands, where he was successful in landing a 6001 b mako shark. The monster was played for three hours, during which time Air Batt wore out 1 a pair of leather gloves and developed blisters on the palms of the hands. “I can’t understand why men fish a river knowing there is only one kind of fish to catch when their is this magnificent sport to he had round our coasts,” said Air Batt. “AVitli this kind of fishing you never know what it may he—black marlin, mako shark, or swordfish. Tn my case it was a mako, a fish that fights up to the last, and who is generally shamming when he appears dead. To think that such a big l fish can lie landed on a herring line is rather wonderful a fter all! ’ ’
