NEW ZEALAND ARMY

OFFICERS RESIGN IN S U FFICIENT RROSPECTS (Per * less Association.) Wellington, Jan It A considerable stir has been created in military circles by the reported resignations oi several Permanent Stall officers on the ground that line present rates of pay are inadequate and there are insull'eient prospects for them to remain in The New Zealand Army. The N o\v Zealand officer's pay it is alleged, has long been among the lowest in the world, but notwithstanding this the Government has been so little appreciative of these officers’ services that in conformity with its policy regarding the Civil Service, it has imposed two 10 per cent. cuts, which have made it impossible for officers to maintain their rank and their wives and families.
