Ho advocated that the Federal Government should go out of it s way to secure his services. It was a crying shame that men of his calibre should have to seek fresh fields fot a. livelihood. His exploits wore too wonderful and too well known to need any repetition. THE BANQUET New Plymouth, January 12. A complimentary dinner was tendered Sir Charles Kiugsford Smith and companions by file New Plymouth Aero Club to-night. The Mayo r of New Plymouth, Mr H. V. S. Griffiths, in proposing the t oast of Kingsfoi'd Smith and his com panions said Smith’s decision to make New Plymouth the first landing place in New Zealand was influenced hv its geographical situation and the fact that, there was such a landing mark as Mount Egmont. Replying Sir Charles said that when lie decided to come to New Zealand he tried to land at the nearest possible point. Capo, Egmont was closer than a,nvwhere else.
