VERY INTERESTING
Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, a Canterbury member of a family known all over Ihe Donunios for its pioneering work in the days of the settliing on the land, has just completed his political career of 3d years’ public service —2(j of them in the House of Representatives. It says much for the strength of will behind the Cabinet's economic policy that his v fliend and political chief, the Hon. Gordon Coates, was not able to secure tile reappointment of Sir Heaton to the Upper House for another seven years. The Laird of Elleslie took his dismissal philosophically. Looking back upon his public career—which included the period when his party yas in opposition for 20 years and he served under Sir Wm. Russell, Mr Win. Massey, and -Mr Coates—Sir Heaton summed it up. “It has been very interesting and very .instructive.” But lie does not intend to write a hook of R*liodesian experiences.
