THEFT BY BOYS
FIFTY CHARGES PREFERRED ALL SORTS OF CRIME (Per Press Association) Christchurch, Oct. 1. Fifty charges involving the theft of conversion of curs, motor cycles, bicycles, and accessories were preferred against litv youths in the Children’s Court this morning. The total value of the good misapprorri11.ted amounted to £1330. The boys’ ages ranged from 14 to lb. The Magistrate, Mr .Mosley, described one of tile elder boys as undoubtedly the moving spirit in the heftd.
"One marvels at the temerity of tile thefts," said Mr. Mosley. "1 can only deal with them to prevent repetition."
The leader of the gang was committed to tiie Borstal Insitution for three years and his father was order-
ed to pay £l3 towards the damage done. Two lifteen-year-Vild boys re eonimitled to the care of the superintendent mi* Child Welfare. Mosley look a more lenient view of the activities of (he Iwo fourteenyear old members of the gang. One
was placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years and tile other for two mouths.
