TRIAL AND SENTENCE
SOUTHLAND CRIMES IN THE SUPREME COURT (Per Press Association.) Invercargill. Aug. 15. At the Supreme Court Thomas Penman, 20, was sentenced ,by Mr. .Justice Kennedy to IS months' reformative detention for stealing £2ll from the Southland County Council, by whom he was employed as clerk. Counsel stated that the money had not gone for vicious purposes. The accused had been paying off flax shares, and.to keep up the payments had borrowed from a moneylender, getting into difficulties. Restitution had been made. Donald Eon Stark, 20, on a charge of carnal knowledge of a girl under 1(1, was sentenced to eight months’ reformative detention. Sydney Nicholas Northcoat, 20, on a charge of incest, was sentenced to 21 years’ hard labour.
