NUDIST BATHERS
FRENCH POLICE RAID ON A SUNNY BEACH (Anst. and N.Z. Cable) Paris, Aug. 1. While the German police are inaugniating a war against nudist beatify shows, the Paris authorities are taking more drastic steps. Five lorry loads of gendarmes raided Ihe Seine beach at Chois le Rbi, near Paris, during the sunniest hours of the afternoon when it was crowded with naked and semi-elothcd hat hers. The police rushed to the water's edge, seized dozens of bathers and bundled them dripping wet into the lorries. The sun-bathers were given time to slip on trousers and frocks. Thirty men and women escaped by swimming to boats but their plight was worse, as all their clothes on the beach were Impounded. The bathers will lie charged with illicit bathing, the penalty for which is 20s. as a prosecution for indecency would mean six- months’ imprisonment.
