REVIVAL OF PRICES
AIR COATES IS CONFIDENT BRITAIN’S OBJECTIVE (Anst. and N.Z. Cable) Ottawa, Aug. IS. Comment Ing on the currency report. Mr. J, G. Coates (New Zealand) staled : "It is a valuable contribution, embodying a pronouncement by Mr. Neville Chamberlain, 'which is of even greater significance that at first appears. Cautiously guarded in expression it. definitely accepts the raising of prices as the fihXeet of Britain’s monetary iMiliey. Nothing can he more valuable tq ,>je f w Zealand producers. Tho dis/ uarions leading to tills report have convinced me that action will be taken to ensure a revival of prices. There is nothing in the report prejudicing New Zealand's power to regulate her own monetary flairs. 1 welcome Mr. Chamberlain's declaration, as marking a milestone in Imperial co-oper-j’tifn, turning away from the disastrous deflationary policy or drift of tlie past: two years.”
