The Lancaster Charge DEATH OF lIADEX CLARKE EVIDENCE OF SUICIDE (Aust. and S.Z. Cable) Miami, AUg. 11. Testimony that Iladen Clarke was a narcotic :lrng addict, that lie frequently discussed suicide, and that he suffered in New Orleans from an illnoss with which he was afflicted at. the time of his death was given today by Dick l.ahcn ler. Clarke’s former companion, at the trial of Cap tain Lancaster for fixe murder of Clarke, Witness said Clarke frequently discussed suicide with him. I'XDEII CR(KSS-KXAM INATION Tuncred testified several days ago that Lancaster threatened to get rid of Clarke. Lancaster denied this ixi lxis testimony. The examination of Lancaster today was brief. Mr. Hawthorne questioned him closely regarding his financial affairs. Lancaster some time ago signed an affidavit that lie was it pauper. In to-day’s testimony he said lie had given Mrs. Miller his share of 300 dollars they had
received for writing two statements for a news service. Lancaster was excused after 121 hours on the stand. Richard Richardson, a Miami writer. said he had twice heard Clarke discuss suicide once about a year ago. Then Clark had said the best method of suicide was by shooting. The second time was at Mrs. Keith Miller’s home, three weeks before his death. He repeated then that shooting was the best method.
