EMPIRE MARKETING
Future of the Board
ITS WORK APPRECIATED DOMINIONS TO CONTRIBUTE ■»UMt illil N / Ottawa, Aug. 12. The sub-committee on the existing machinery for economic cooperation within the Empire, in the course of its report, states that tlie third question is what shall lie the Einjure Marketing Board’s future. It is pointed out that the Board was formed when the British Government failed to give preference promised at the 1023 Imperial Conference. The posilion has now changed, because* Britain has approved of a considerable system of preferences as a settled policy. The quest:on- arises whether, after the end of the financial year, tin* fimds for Marketing Board should not be contributed partly by the six Dominions, instead of being entirely a burden on the British taxpayer. The Committee will recommend that a committee, on which the Empire Governments arc represented meet in London in order to examine tin* problems an 1 present a report within the next few months. GOOD WORK RECOGNISED The view was expressed that the Board had done excellent work and that its objectives, facilitating the development of' the marketing of Empire goods in Britain had been at j tamed with a gratifying measure, of I slice es.\ The Dominion representatives un- ! animously agreed that the work should be continued. The delegates expressed Ibe ~ view that Britain should not lie. asked to bear the whole cost. The * Dominion Governments might take over a share, making annual contributions.
