“GEORGE WASHINGTON'S” PARCELS (Ansi, and N.Z. Cable) Sydney, Aug. 11. Percy Wince, U 3. a .ship's steward,
was before the City Court to-day on a provisional warrant from New Zealand charged with being- concerned in the fraudulent evasion or at-
tempted evasion of duty on tin* export of 207 sovereigns and 210 halfsovereigns from New Zealand.
Detective 1 taker said that when he arrested Wince after the arrival of the Niagara in July the latter said he lm 1 no idea of the contents of the parcels which were in his possession. They had been given to him by a man named George Washington in a Wellington hotel to deliver to persons here who wore ,to meet him in his cabin.
Detective-Sergeaiit Trick 1 ebank. of Wellington, asked the Court to order "Wince's return to New Zealand in his custody, and the Magistrate complied with the request.
