NON-PAYING LINES
MR. EUUXXEIt OX A MYTH DEPENDS ON POINT OF VIEW NEW SOUTH WALES ATTITUDE Speaking at the half-yearly meeting of the Sydney Motor Traders’ Association, the Minister for Transport, Mr. Bruxuer, sahl that there was no greater myth than the so-called nonpaying lines in the country. The people of New South Wales had invested £140,000,000 in the railways and if it had not been for the railway system the State would not have het'ii half as developed as it is now. From the railway accountants’ point of view some lines did not pay, but from the Stall* point of view they did. The Minister said there was too much talk about motor competition, and what it di.l to the railways. Figures showed that road competition from the goods point of view was not so serious. There had to be a degree of co-ordination, but that must be co-operation, not elimination.
