Report for the Month COMMEMORATION EVENTS Tlfc ADJUSTER'S RET ITNYi A PER JCCIA Tl ON EX PRESSED FOR THE ADDRESS GIVEN BY DR. ALLAN RopaitU’g ;11 tho Board of ALmagcrs last night, Air L. J. AVild, Hcaadmastf'i' ,of the I'eilding Agricultural High School, gt.a,ted:— » The mouth under review has heon a lull one. The twin examimatiems v(pro 'held in the latter half if J iffy and reports will he issued a*t the end of the term. AEeantimo Ire?h work has been opened up for the remainder of the current term. Tho roll number i s falling slowlj hut steadily, and is now down to 233. This is in some respects .a, good sign as all leavers are being absorbed into fJomo useful field of unemployment-. T had intended to ask the 00-nperation of tho hoard, tho Eiiiriners’ I nioa pnd tho A. and P. Association, in. an effort to find places; for boy on farms, but. yn far I have had more difficulty i n funding hoys prepared to leave atibis time of' the year than in finding places for them on farms. The annual Goimnemorafion began with the services in St. John’s on Sunday, July 24. and this was remarkably well attended by both past, and present members of tho school. On Tuesday a brass tablet in memory of the late Harry Tolley was unveiled by the Rev. Air CLpela-nd. Social funotices were held scp.ara.tcly hy present pupil-i and old pupils on Tucsdav evening’. On AVodnei-day there was a. very large attendance of old pupils at. the. opening of the school at 9 o'clock, and the number increased during the Hay. The available accommodation was quite insufficient for the main function at. II ,a.m.. hut thanks to Air K. AleE« on the fine comruemorati m aiddiat s delivered Ly Dr. Allan was transmitted by loud speaker to an adjaeeint. 'room filial okl pupils could .also listen in. The weather in. the afternoon was somewhat unkind but. the games Mere followed with 'the cusual iuithitiiasut; WliiAa flic accommodation, was fully taxed •for the old pupils’ tea in the evening. Tho interest °f old pupils in - commemoration is attested by the largo number who attended,- many travelling from distant 'parts of the Island in order to be present. The exceptionally dry winter haa hct-u favourable t-0' outdoor activities and tho various programmes of tho inter-club and inter-house gifcnes have algo been played this team; football with Dunnevirke, Hat vera, and lldmcrst-un North Technical School ; basketball and hockey with Palmerston North Technical School and Mart-on. \Ve have lost most of these games this year, but the purpose of the games has bee, n served just as well. TVe could increase tho number of inter-sohoo! engagements without actually giving too much time to sport., but we s trivo to keep a due soiree of proportion, in all our activities. 1 do not think that many pla-yi I's of games give too much time to sport,, though probably many non-players do. Tho curroi.lt tej-m ends on August 19 and school resumes on September 13. On the motion of Mr A. Campbell, seconded hy Mr A. H. Atkinson, tho Board' paiflcd a motion expressing apprer-iatio-n of Dr. Allan’s fine address on Commemoration Day.
