RATA COMPANY’S SEASON A DISAPPOINTING RESULT USE OF FERTILISERS URGED
‘•'This year has been a disappointing one both in regard to output and prices,” said the chairman of the Rata Dairy Co , Mr R. D. Dnlziclt, at the annual meeting of shareholders at 1 lunterville. “Although we had a considerable increase m the -number oi suppliers, out output decreased by 2S tons. \\ e experienced a very wet winter and an early spring, followed by a spell |Of very dry weather, with the resultthat there was no flush of feed, and with little autumn growth, cows, dried off earlier than usual. Present indications arc that rows will not come in this season in the best- ot condition to get good results. Given a. normal season we anticipate a considerable increase in output for the> current year. The quality of our butter has been well maintained. Tlie average grade for 26,800 r>oxc* passed through the grading sjtores wgs 9 >97. Under existing condition-s farmers are unable to maintain the productivity of their farms, and as a result, butterfat production has shown a falling off of about yolbs. per cow during tho past two Years. Suppliers must realise that to meet low r prices they must increase their yield per cow, and it was only by testing and use of fertilisers that this could be accomplished.
