AIR SWINDELLS VERSION £IOOO FOR TIN HARE LICENSE (Aust. and N.Z. Cable) Sydu cy, Aug ust 8. Giving evidence .at the tin hare inquiry to-day, F. Cowdroy, recalled said that idneo the Royal Commission had been mooted Frederick Swindell had suggested that he should say he loet £IOOO at the races in order to account for the, £IOO6 he had given Mr Swindell in connect ion with the license bought for the Wool long, rug Courging Company. When vwtnoss pointed out that this was unsatisfactory Mr Swindell said: “Well, if you gay you gave if to me I shall deny it.'” Air Cowdroy added that the money he gave Air Swindell was, lie understood ,going past him to somebody else. Air Holman, counsel for Air Swindell. asked Air Cowdroy whether an impartial hearer was, likely to believe him nr Air Swindell in regard p? this matter'. Tho Royal Commissioner Interjected : 1 have said I do not believe Swindell’s story of this transaction. Mr Holman: I submit that is a most premature statement. The Commissioner: Things done. in. scoret are usually most difficult to rfoiToilrorate. The hearing was adjourned.
