In several cities the Mayors made impromptu speeches, prominent M.P.’s pi minted with lifting pride to the great achievement, chairmen of road board telegraphed abroad patriotic re solutions of inordinate length, bands and ft reworks were in evidence everywhere. It was left- to Eeildin.g to provide the anti-climax. From there ' came a historic message of tlireo word- : “Felidin'* in calm.”
