Sh c drew attention to the’ urgent need of mission work in India and outlined what- the Zenana- Bible and medical Mission wa s doing, towards meeting that need evangelistic weak in the Zenanas and villages, establishment of schorls, babjes’ MStlios, industrial homes and lio-pHaL for women and children.. It was- estimated that in Lidia 30,000,000 out wi 38,000,000 children of school age were, receiving no. education at all. only one village out of every lour having a school. Crmceming medical \\lork, from 5.000,000 to. 6,000.000 die yearly from preventable diseases. the lack of qualified medical attention, particularly tor the women, was appal' ling. Regarding the purely evangelistic side of the work, a recent survey of missions stated that out of the half million villages >n India only 110 have a resident missionary.
