'I he success of Tout 1 o Monel at I rcivtham on Saturday was particularly 'received (says a Christchurch writer) as his owner Dr. M. (i. Louison, is one of the best supporters of tlie turf and is not afraid to pay I3ijyr prices to secure well bred stock. As a yearling, Tout lc Mond topped th emarket at Treiitham, mamly o\\ing to the fact that his half-brotlier, Aspian, by Thespian, had, on the previous day, only suffered a head defeat by Ammon Ra in the Wellington Stakes. The .youngster elicited keen competition, and the bidding', starting at 300 guineas, rose to <Soo guineas, at which figure Dr. Louisson silenced the opposition. Tout lc Mond, like others of his breeding, has been inclined to be overstrung, but travelling and racing in strange surroundings have made a marked improvement in him. lie has nevertheless not been hurried and his win on Saturday would suggest that he w ill be seen to more advantage as a three year old.
