OHINEMURI COUNTY WAGES ALMOST DOWN TO RELIEF RATE RATEPAYERS SURPRISED Workmen employed by the Ohinemuri County Counrii received a further cpr. of 15 per cent, in their wages. They now receive /. \ js pd a week. The cut was fhade by reducing the number of working hours from 4S to 40. The workman now receive 12s qd a day of eight hours, the riding foreman 13s Bd, and the county foreman 14s Bd. The workmen are mostly employees of many years’ standing. Their wages are now only 3d a day more, than the rale paid to relief workers. About 75 per cent, of ihe work done by the county workmen is on the main highways and is subsidised by the Alain Highways Board three times as much as it saves the ratepayers.
