WALKING FOR, A JOB SHE FAILED TO GF-T IT THEN SHE WALKED BACK Tiie story of a- woman *.s remark able courage in undertaking to walk from Christchurch to Dunedin, was made known to a Christchurch reporter.
The woman wavs working at- Dune, din for 7s 6d a. week and found. She saw an advertisement in a Oliri* tchureh paper for a- housekeeper at €2 per week and determined to secure the> position. She left her Dunedin employment and came to Christchurch, arriving with C2 in her ptir-©, but was 1411ablo to get the position she sought. She stayed in Christchurch seeking work until her money wa s almost exhausted, when she determined, to go former employment. Having little money he set out on foot. She reback to Dunedin and resume her ccivod two lift- for a few miles, hut go no substantial help along the road until she got to Timaru, wher e & carrier gave her a ride to Waimate And a bed at hite mother’s house for the evening. Next day '-lie was given a lift: t,j her destination at Dunedin. Whether this plucky woman wa able to get back her former position i s not- known.
