THAMES PIONEER S BIRTHDAY WAS THERE.BEFORE GOLD DISCOVERY Ono of tile earliest pioneers of Thames Goldfields, Air John AlcWafters, of Tararu, celebrated his 95th birthday at hi s residence at Tararu last Monday and was tin* recipient of many congratulatory calls and messages (says the Thames Star). Air MeWatters wa s actually on the field before tile gold wa s discovered, having owned a cutter which ran between Auckland and Thames and ho was one of tlie very first to join in the activity which followed tlie find of Hunt's Shot-over. He specialised in file work of an amalgamator and was associated in this capacity with many of the largest and most prominent of tlie mines and batteries. He is still comparatively bale and hearty, and takes an interest in the current events.
