Whangarei, December The machinery is being removed to-day fro mthe British Standard Portland Cement, Co.'s mine ct \\ ban V alley, which is closing; down on account of insufficient orders. The mine is one of the oldest in the district, and the. cool seams run for miles under the hill leading to Kamo. It was closed between 191S--13*20, hut was later reopened by Mr Harrison, the owner. About four years ago it was purchased by the British Standard Poitland Cement Co., which at ;bat t»mo bad under consideration the establisment of works on the Whangarei harbour.
