Despite the services of an Egyptian guide they lost themselves between Khartoum and Luxor. Their water became exhausted, but a condenser saved their lives. Later they encountered 300 miles of swamp between .Tube and Khartoum. When they were reported overdue the Government sent a camel corps on an all-night search. They often encountered lions on the veldt.
