but an excess of wind NOTES ON THE WEATHER The li<>i>e expressed n month ago . that a warmer type of weather was setting in was amply fulfilled during the month of November. The month opened inaiispiciotisly with 182 points of rain during the first three days, hut after that there was a long period of hot and summer-like days. This lasted until the 20tli. when weather of the westerly type, typical of the season, set in. Strong and squally nortli-westerly winds prevailed oh and off from the 20tli to the end of the month, but the weather, although changeable, was mostly fair in Wellington. The mean temperature for the month in Wellington was 57.8 degrees, nearly two degrees above the average of previous years. This is the highest mean temi>erature recorded for November in Wellington, si lice 1024, when it was 5715 degrees. The mean maximum teinjieratiire was 02.0 degrees, the average being 02.0 previously. Tlie mean minimum temperature was also above the average, 51.0 degrees as against 40.4 degrees. The extreme maximum was a tempera tyre of 70.8 degrees in the shade recorded on the 12th, the extreme minimum being 87. degrees being reached on the morning of the sth. The gross mean minimum was 40.0 degrees. the extreme of 80.8 degrees being reached 011 the morning of the stli, this being the month’s only frost. The. past November, however, excelled in the matter of sunshine. It was, 111 fact, the sunniest November sinCh 1010. The total number of hours of bright sunshine was 262.5. As November's average is 2(H).7 this works out at about two hours a day more sunshine than the average. No* yember in 1010 lmd 268.8 hours of bright sunshine. The sunniest day during the last month was the 10th. 18 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The rainfall was almut 10 per cent, below the average. Rain amounting to 201 points fell on nine days, the average for November being 200 points. The deficiency was, therefore. only 20 points. More than half of the month’s rainfall occurred during the first, three days of the month, the greatest one day fall being 05 points on the 2nd. The mean daily wind run was 814 miles, which is equivalent to an hourly velocity of 18.1 miles. November’s average is 278 miles per day. and the last month was* the windiest since 1025. Northerlies predominated, southerlies prevailing on three days only. The windiest day was the 21st, when, on that day the run was 585 miles Most of the month’s wind occurred during the last ten lays. Barometric pressure was slightly above the average, 20.085 inches as against the average of 20.807 inches.
