Criticism of tlie proposed property tr.x under tlie Earthquake Relief Bill was made by the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce in (he following resolution passed to-night:— "This Chamber opposes tlie tax on the ground that it is a levy of property and not an income. It is inequitable as between one section of lie community and another, ns it taxes owners of property, machinery, -merchandise, prod tier and other goods', and does not tux . investments ind other forms .of capital.” The Chamber suggest* that a coiitribn'iou should be made from publie revenue instead of by tlie proposed costly, illconvenient and inequitable taxation.”
