MAKES NEW COERSE ONLY KAIEWAV EMBANKMENT lIOEDS HOOD MAY BECOME MENACE TO TOWN On Saturday, when the flotil waters began to recede at Otaki, tlie river wils found to have washed away about 400 yards of tin* uorth-e-n bank at Ualini, and was flowing along a new course, a quarter of a rnil(> Avhh*. for about a mile and a half. r rhe river now makes a northerly sweep up to the racecourse and then flows due Avest until cheeked by the railway embankment, whieli turns it south again to join the original course. But for the ’ embankment, he river would have SAvept into the town on Friday night. It is feared that with another flood the new course of the river will deviate through the racecourse and by Rahul factory, descending on the town via Mill road and seriously threatening the town.
