STOWAWAY ON AORANGI "FINED AMOUNT OF PASSAGE Auckland April 7. f A well dressed man, Thomas McKeown, machinist, 2S, who was arrested on the arrival of the Aorangi from Sydney, later appeared at the Police Court, when lie pleaded guilty to a charge of stowing away on board the vessel on April 2. It was stated by Detective Kelly that McKeovn . was found on the ship an hour after she cleared Sydney. Tlie amount nf the faro was £7 10?. Mr Ackins, fox accused, said MeKeown recently arrived on the Aorangi at Sidney from Vancouver, hoping that he would secure work in New South Wales. He walked from Sydney to the Blue Mountains, but was unsuccessful in finding 0 position. ‘Tie was unfortunate :n being fleeced of all the money lie had, some 60 dollars, by confidence men in Vancouver, and now he has nothing,” added counsel. McKeown was fined £7 10s, in default 14 days’ imprisonment.
