THREE MONTHS’ HARD FOR ASSAULTING POLICE (Per Press Association). Christchurch, Dee. 11. Before the Magistrate, Ml- Mosley, Reginald MeKegney, 29. one of tlie unemployed, was sentenced to three months with hard lawour on two charges of assaulting a police sergeant and wilfully obstructing the police in their duty. It was stated that at the City Council chambers last Thursday, when the police wore endeavouring to eject a man named Marshall, leader of unemployed demonstration, MeKegney interfered. He rushed at the police and endeavoured to strike the Sergeant, who eventually threw him over on to a -sent. “For two minutes things were very had.” added the -senior Sergeant, The Magistrate: “There is only one punishment, for those who disturb the peace and good name of the City and that is the maximum penalty.”
