One of t;he largest mass meetings farmer's have ever held in Christchurch took place in the Civic theatre to-day. The proceedings developed into; a, demonstration rather time a, meeting, so enthusiastic, was the applause when mention was made of the abolition of the Arbitration Court. The, main object of the meeting was to discuss the fall in prices and the means of dealing with the, situation created by the Dominion’s great decrease in income.
The following resolutions were car i led:—
That litis roprcse|nta,tive meeting of farmers emphatically urged that Parliament be called at an early date and that a conference of alj parties be held immediately it does to discuss ways and means to, reduce the cost of farming. That this meeting is .emphatically of opinion that tlie Arbitration Act should be repealed. That, all. classes oif the community should help the, Government in its economy campaign and strongly urge it to still further economise, a.nd refrain from increasing our enormous public debt. That this meeting authorises the getting up of an Emergency Committee consisting of of A. and P. Associations, Farmers’ Unions, Sheep Owners’ Union and two members of each society to go, into the following matters: To investigate, the present position and take steps, to; promulgate measures to ameliorate the •present condition of farmers; a. iliasi.on with the Chamber of Commence, Manufacturers’ Association and Industrial Association etc., in a,ny means to further the, aims and spirit of the resolutions passed at this meeting.
