Gfvn askign whether Britain would do someth!ing to maintain the starving people who went out under n. settlement scheme which tlie British Government had approved of. Air Thomas replied that 828 settlers, mostly aeeompan'ed by their families, went out; 32.1 took up land, while' 240 were still on hold fours. Britain had paid £43,510 toward tho cost of tlie scheme, but tlie responsibility hn* the scttleite rested with the Victorian Government, wlreh was holding an inquiry.
