AEROPLANE CRASHES
EEILDING TO WELLINGTON
IN ATTEMEPT TO LAND FOR REFUELLING
(Per Press Association ). Wellington, August 24. A Wellington pilot, 1?. Berryman, crashed his nubchine at Paekakariki this afternoon. Two of the club-trained pilots, Messrs O. M. Dutliie and lit. Berryman went on a flight to Feildiug yesterday morning. All went well upon the return journey, which was commenced at 1.40, until they reached Paekakariki. They met a strong southerly wind and ran intcl thick low clouds which made it impossible to> return upon the course they had in. tended and they decided that it would he necessary to go around Cape Teraw’.iiti.
Their benzine supply, however, was not sufficient for such a trio and so they agreed to land in a paddock and refuel. Huthie, who was flying a club Moth landed successfully, hut Berry, man, jn his own Avro-Avian made a couple of vain attempts to land in tlie field and finally overshot, hit fence and tipped up. Du fc’.iie, however, refuelled and come iu to "Wellington, arriving at d. 15 Berryman will return by car tonight.
