PREMIER FORBES MAKffS FIRST ST \TF.MF.NT AIMS AND ASPIRATIONS (By Telegraph.—Special to Star.) Wellington, Ma\ 28. After being' sworn in this afternoon, the new Prime Minister, the lion. George Forbes, handed a statement to the jness for publication in which he say : 1 am undertaking a high duty with a due sense of humility and an earnest desire to serve the public well and to the fullest extent of my powers. I am conscious of my limitations, but I shall strive earnestly to do my best for the country in which 1 was born and in which all my interests are centred. On the question of unemployment we will ask Parliament to approach it with the desire to approve of plans Tor a more permanent remedy than it has previously been possible to evolve. -It must be recognised that while there are many projects tltat might be. undertaken for the benefit of . the people generally, we must consider whether the country t an really afford such services in the light of present commitments and the relative economic position of the producers and other sections of the community. It is my intention to issue at the earliest possible, moment a comprehensive statement regarding the present financial position of the Dominion. I shall be assisted by able colleagues who are now experienced administrators and who can be relied upon to take their full share of the responsibility which the Ttew Govern-1 ment is about to ass.ume.
