INDIAN’S NEW TARIFF
EFFECT IN LANCASHIRE
(Aust. and N.Z. Cable) Rugby, March 6. The President of the Boat'd of Trade, was asked in fhe House of Commons whether ,having regard to tile serious effect the proposed increase in the Indian cotton t ar ih’ would have on the. Lancashire, cotton industry, lie would consider the desirableness of making representations to the Indian Government that the proposals shall not, be proceeded with. Air Graham explained that as would have been seen from Sir George. Schuster’s speech in the Indian Legislative Assembly, the British Government had already done everything possible in the way of representations Air Graham added: “Though I fully realise the grave effet which this increase of duties may have on the trade of Lancashire, I appreciate also the proposal of the Indian Government to aslc the Legislative Assembly to assent' to preferential treatment for this country.”
