A FAKE SUICIDE
STAGED BY RICHARD BROPHY FORMER MEMBER OF BYRD EXPEDITION MANAGER IN NEW ZEALAND (Aust. and N.Z. Cable)' New York, Dec. 3. Richard Brophy, who was formerly second in command of the Byrd expedition, -staged a . lake suicide at Coney Island last August witl’.i the object of getting put of sight. He had succeeded, until an editor of Omaha, who had been looking over pictures of the liyrd expedition last week, recognised a man working oil his staff as Brophy. Upon the discovery, Brophy agreed to return to his sick wife in New' York, but overnight he again disappeared. It was alleged that bis friendship with a Broadway actress caused complications with Commander Byrd and led t° his dismissal in Dunedin, where he was manager for the expedition.
