FI.Y FISHING The Marino Department wrote in reply to the Society’s proposal v to declare a certain part of the Oroua river as available for fly fishing only, stating that it had been observed that the. Society’s regulations were dated 1809, The Department proposed to bring the regulations up to date, and a draft of the new regulations'would bo forwarded. The Secretary had perused the new* regulations and found that they wore practically identical with the old. Ho had therefore returned the document to the Department with approval. CERTIFICATE REQUIRED Tho .Marine Department wrote with the request. for a certificate of - character of a gentleman whom it was proposed to appoint an honorary ranger. —Tho Secretary reported he had procured two certificates and forwarded them ARITT RANGER Mr W. Hogan, secretary of th& 'Apiti. sub-committee, wrote saying the Committee appointed at Apiti w r as a representative one, and would be able to study the Society’s interests over the whole district. He suggested, Air L. S. Miller a« a new member of the Committee. The President said he. had seen Mr Miller sjnee the letter was written,: and it was .suggested he should be appointed! a Ranger. Air A Tiller was quite willing to accept that office. On the motion of Air Lange, it was decided to appoint Mr Aliiler a. ranger.. AIR J. HURDLE Air J. Hurdle forwarded his resignation ass a member of the Council, The President said Mr Hurdle had been a member of the Council for many years, and had done very valuable work. He understood Mr Hurdle was willing to continueto act as curator of tho fish ponds. He proposed that' Air Hurdle’s resignation be accepted with regret, and that the Society plrico on record its appreciation of h'd services.—Agreed to ANNUAL CONFERENCE The Secretary of the Association wrote stating the annual conference would he- held ini Wellington on tho 18th and 19th inst. The President said Air 'Stevens had been appointed as a. delegate but he would be unable to go, and th© speaker would take his place. Mr Durraht 1 was the other delegate. PHEASANT preserve . Tlio Secretary reported that certain property owners 'in the district had. agreed to allow their properties to be used as a. preserve for pheasants, and if the Society released the birds there the .properties could be closed against all shootists for a couple of years. The. property owners themselves would observe the compact and would agree to throw the country open to license holders in a few years’ time, ix§ the Society decided. ' It was decided to accept the oiler and to release pheasants on the area. Air T. Aides, of Stanway, was appointed an honorary ...ranger.
