GREAT DIFFICULTIES
IN RESTORING LAND LINES EAR A MEANS ISOLATION RADTO EQUIPMENT TO RE INSTALLED (Per Press Association) ■Wellington. June 24. The G.P.O. stales that reports indicate that the restoration of land llnp communication with Karainea will present, difficulties, occupying a .considerable time. Communication now extends as far north of Westport as St. Helen’s, hut a good deal of country beyond (bat is rough and liable to slips. This morning, the line between Westport and Greymouth bad been subject, to interrupiion, but radio communication was maintained throughout. Owing to slips communication with Murchison has also boon interrupted, and linesmen in that vicinity are having a strenuous time. The Chief Postmaster at Westport reports that, only a few minor shakes occurred during the night. It is still showery and threatening, and the weather is had in the Gorge The Postmaster at Motueka repouts no further damage . though tremors continue. Tin. Postmaster at Murchison reported at 10. am.; "All the rivers arc reported to he norhial. No change, all safe.” Takaka reports that, (lie shocks (here are decreasing in frequency and intensity. A thunderstorm passed over at, about, 11 o’clock last night. It is still showery.
