FRUITGROWERS 'TAKE ACTION {Per Presn Association) Auckland, May 22. With the object of encouraging research to combat fin- print-loaf pots and diseases affecting the fruit industry, the directors of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation have agreed to pay a subsidy ot £IOO a. year for two years in order to make possible the employment of a. special assistant at the Cn-w throw stitute.
The annual report of the hoard of directors state ; that fruitgrowers had for several years emphasised the necessity for roseach work being carried out in an endeavour Hi prevent the ravages of post*; and diseases upon fruit. The Department of Agriculture and the O.'i'.v----t-hmu Institute had given valuable assistance in the past, but there, wore .two outstanding pasts, the bronze beetle and earwig, over which there was stiff! no ronirol. To assist in this direction it had been agreed to give a stibddy of CIOO a year Vo* two years. In addition, the DepnTuicnt of Scientific and Industrial Research had ngiced to give a. subsidy of £l5O a year, and the money would he used to employ a special research assistant.
