In response to a ,'further request from the Australasian Council of Trades Union’s for a conference to discuss tho cooks’ strike, the owners replied granting the request, but slating that they had already announced the terms on which a. settlement, was possible and there could he no compromise on the matter as the terms embodied a. vital principle. But if, knowing this, the Council still wished to meet the owners in conference, the latter, as a matter of courtesy, would not refuse.
