A DANCE FOR DAUGHTERS

Last Tuesday night Alj;s Shore and Mrs 'Tom Senile gave, a. dance in the Utiwai Hall in honour of their ;e----spective daughter., birthdays, Alisses i Alolly Shore and Jean Sea tie. The hail was prettily decorated with, coloured streamers and some 80 guests - were entertained. Novelty unnees 1 caused much merriment and dancing j continued until a late hour. The music was supplied by Messrs Ca- | wood, Buekman, Cummerlield, Scarlo (2) and Miss CummerfiekK j On AYednesday the hockey team j journeyed to Kiwitea- to play a match with that club, Apiti, winning by seven goals to nil. M. Cmmnerfield I shooting the goals for the winners. Mis g Snndilands, the Kiwitea geolie and captain, played an outstanding game for the home side. Mr R. Stn--1 art was an able referee. After the match the- teams were entertained i at afternoon ten at the residence of .Mr A. Kidd. Ott Saturday the senior football team visited Waitunn to play a match with that club. After a game, which was one of the) best, if not tlio best, ever witnessed in the Oroua sub-Union, Apiti won by 11 points to 6. '(’lie Wailuiia. forwards were too i he;tvv for our boys, but the Apiti backs were superior to their opponents. C. Osborne, Don McKenzie and Kearney scored for Apiti, and Dais for Waituna. Mr N. Short carried the whistle. The- old residents of Apiti will regret to hear of the death, of Airs Walter Watson, which occurred last week at To Tvuiti. The deceased lady,'with her husband and family, came to Apiti nearly 40 years ago and had all the hardships of the backblocks settlers to contend with. Several years ago Airs Watson removed to the King Country, where most of lior family now reside. Airs Watson was of a kindly and generous disposition, and was held in the highest esteem by those who had the privilege -of knowing her. On Friday night the members of the Alethodist Church assembled at the residence of Air G. H. Purnell L» give that gentleman a farewell party. Air Purnell has been a egret: supporter of the Methodist Church in. Apiti during his long stay here and he was presented with an umbrella- i« token of the esteem in which he was held by his fellow churchmen. The Plunket Nurse paid her first visit to Apiti some -days ago, where she had a, most successful afternoon. Alis s Ellery Gibson, of JJrnmu, New Plymouth, is visiting her sister, Airs Berne Water son. The friends of Air Alec. McKenzie will lie pleased to hear, that he is now making a- quick his bout of pneumonia-. Miss Wood, of. Hastings, has been visiting her sister. Airs AY. Horris.
