TRAIN WRECKED

TRUCKS SMASHED TO MATCHWOOD HALL OVER HIGH BANK (Pex Press Association' To Kuiti, March 13. This morning a mixed, train leaving Taumarumii ab 7.43 for Frank, ton, -was wrecked a. mile south of Mangapeohi. The train was travelling about 2d miles per hour when the fourth, truck from the engine left the Rue .followed by three other trucks and three passenger cars. The four trucks were precipitated over a bank over 130 feet high, and smashed. to matchwood, tin* contents, produce and fruit, being scattered in all directions. Luckily tbe coupling between the carriages and the truck broke, and the- ‘first carriage came to a standstill against the face of a cutting. The other two carriages were on the sleepers and upright.

There acre no casualties, though one passenger suffered cuts on being thrown through a window. The passengers in the. first carriage had to climb through a window, fhe accident is supposed to have been caused through a broken axle on a. truck The permanent way was torn up lor six chains. Belief gangs from all available points have been sent to the scene.
