Violent wind storms throughout the western portion of the United States killed 10 peTsons and injured many otliers. ' The. damage to property at present isr not estimated. The gale iear-lied a. velocity of 70 miles an hour. Pedestrians in New York city fought their way into the subway and on the elevated stations against winds that made walikng arduous. Tile waters in the harbour wor> ehnrned up hy the gale, swamping two boats at the dock. All liners were delayed. ‘A[any motor injures were eaused because- pedestrians were unable, through, the force of the wind, to dodge the automobiles.
