THE LINK OF FACILITY

This is the openin'? week of the bridge spanning the Mokau river of Taranaki, thus Jinking the two northern provinces and providing a clear run for Fcilding motorists, hot to mention others, from New Plymouth Tight, across to To Kniti, which will now he one of the most, popular, as il is the. most picturesque trips in the XorMi Island. Tt is 80 years since white settlers began to ford the beautiful Mokau, then came the ferry, which for some time past had been the solo remaining ferry of its kind in this island. Taranaki's public men had a long figlir for the bridge that has just been opened, and it is just another victory for persistency, il is not only a very useful and practical link of facility, it is a beautiful bridge beautifully situated, and it will he much photographed’ h.v tourist's from aif parts of the world;: Last summer, when the Mokau river had to lie crossed on the punt, there was immense motor' traffic between Te Kuili and New Plymouth. With that last obstacle removed, and the road being improved every year, the traffic will increase rapidly arid this will become a great national highway. New Plymouth and Auckland will ho brought into much closer touch than they have ever been because of the ease of communication, and New Plymouth will no longer ho sidetracked as it was when the opening of the Main Trunk Railway rook the traffic which up'to that time was- carried on by the steamers between that port and Onohhnga.
