POPULAR BANK MANAGER
MR W. H. ROBERTSHAW FEILDING’S FAREWELL. Mr W. H. Robertshaw, manner of the Bank of Australasia, who is leaving'' Foil ding to take over ihe Wanganui branch, was mot at the Borough Council Chambers yesterday, afternoon by a large r.umbar of business friends. The* opportunity was taken to bid Mr Bobertsmr.v inrewoll and to welcome to Bedding his successor, Mr A. C. St. Paul. Mr Iml. Goodbehere congratulated Mr Kobertshnw on his promotion. He 'had made, many friends during his stay in Bedding, and had received the full confidence ol the bank s clients. This fact and his ability as a banker must have been recognised by the chief officers to bring about his promotion to such an important centre,. M r Goodbefibre expressed the hope that this would he but a stepping stone in the banking career of them guest. The speaker also offered a hearty welcome to Mr St. Paul-; tomarking that bis appointment to Bedding was rather appropriate, because Mr St. ‘Paul’s late father was: the first officer to open the Bank of Australasia in Feilding in 1372. As a token of high esteem, Mr Bobertshnw received a well-filled wallet from the bank’s customers, ■ and with it the best wishes tor the future. Mr Qra 1} a in- re in ark ed that Feeding semed to‘be the stepping-off : place for higher positions, instancing several changes of bank managership in Bedding during the past 20 years. In business, Mr ilpbertshaw had combined an innate courtesy with a sound banking knowledge. Mr Hector Booth endorsed the sentiments of appreciation and esteem, and in welcoming Mr St. Paul commented that his into father had been the first man to start loot’.uni in Feilding. Mi- Robershaw. in reply, said it- was with feelings of great regret that life had- to leave the Feilding.branch, lor with his customers be had entered into very close and, lie would say, affectionate business relations. He ■uas not only looked upon as a banker but as a counsellor of private- business and family matters, and had gained the confidence of a wide ciroe. Since his residence in Podding he bad conic to realise that the district was the finest in New Zealand, and its industries were sounder and carried on along more progressive lines, lie took the opportunity of thanking, the hank’s clients for the courteiy ho had received at all times and for all the kind words said about lim-eif, knowing that all had come from the goodness of their hearts.
