SERIOUS EPIDEMIC.
INFLUENZA SPREADING. DEATHS IN' FRANCE AND SPAIN (Aust. and N.Z. Cable). London, Jan. 4 A serious wave of influenza ,'s sweeping over Europe, and from all countries com© reports of gloving lists of victims. So far the. EugUsti epidemic is mild, though it is causing anxiety. . In-I Va nce it is most severe in the southern and central districts, ■ but less violent in the Paris district. Jii Montpelier deaths average 20 daily and have been as high as 32 in one day. It is estimated .that /100,000 people are affected. Spain is suffering a milder form of the. malady though 94 deaths are reported in Madrid' in a week. There are over 2000 eases m Basle where the schools are closrl llicie are 20,000 cases in Berlin alone and work "is generally considerably hampered, while in Central Bavara the epidemic is spreading like wildfire.
