DOUBLE DROWNING AVERTED. (Per Pres<« Association) Greymouth, January I. The inquest concerning the death of Saute Tominosi, an Italian, who was drowned while bathing on the Seven Mile Reach on Wednesday last, disclosed a brave attempt on tire part of a young lady, Aliss Nellie Newton, to avert a fa tail tv. Norman George Griffiths, of Runangn, said he was bathing oft. ffeven Aide Beach at Ra.pahoe when h& saw decased and his mate, .Yogare, waistdeep at the mouth of the Seven Mile Creek, Jin the surf. .Senior Sergeant AfcCarthy said it was evident there wolud. have been a double fatality, only for the courage of the young lady. The coroner, in returning a verdict that deceased was accidentally drowned, paid a'tribute to the bravery of Miss'Newton.
